Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany - In a year when the success of the U.S. Ski Team was astounding, Lindsey Vonn, of Vail, Colo., and Ted Ligety, of Park City, Utah, capped off the excitement with some of the most prestigious awards in alpine skiing - Audi FIS World Cup ski racing titles. Vonn took the overall crown plus three other titles, while Ligety won his second giant slalom title in three years.

Whistler (BC), Canada - Canada came away with two silver medals on Sunday, the opening day of medal competition at the alpine skiing venue of the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games in Whistler. U.S. Adaptive Alpine Team member, Stephani Victor of Park City, Utah, won a silver medal in the women’s sit-ski slalom.

Whistler (BC), Canada - U.S. Adaptive Cross Country athlete Andy Soule, of Pearland, Texas, made history Saturday, winning the first U.S. medal of the 2010 Paralympic Games and the first-ever medal for the U.S. Paralympic Biathlon team on the opening day of competition. Soule, a retired U.S. Army veteran, combined his shooting skills learned in the Army with his cross country skiing skills learned from the U.S. Adaptive Cross Country Team to win the bronze medal.

Meiringen-Hasliberg, Switzerland - Sweden’s Anna Holmlund won Sunday’s women’s World Cup ski cross race in Switzerland, followed in second by Ophelie David of France and Norway’s Marte Hoeie Gjefsen in third. In the men’s competition, Michael Schmid of Switzerland crossed the finish line ahead of Audun Groenvold of Norway in second and Canada’s Chris DelBosco in third.

Oslo, Norway - After long ago having locked up the World Cup overall title, Jason Lamy Chappuis of France closed up the season with a win as he took home the King’s Cup at Holmenkollen in Norway on Sunday. Olympic gold medalist Billy Demong, of Vermontville, N.Y., led the way for the U.S. finishing 10th.
