Montpelier, VT - Vermont’s ski and snowboard resorts are covered with snow and conditions are the best of the season, reports Ski Vermont spokesperson Heather Atwell. “Since mid-January, winter weather has remained ideal for overjoyed snow enthusiasts across the state. Not only are resorts buried in snow, but also snowmobile routes and cross-country trails that rely on steady natural snowfall are thriving,” Atwell said on Tuesday.

Fernie (BC), Canada - Fernie Alpine Resort will be the host of the Salomon X-Wing Rally Event this Friday through Sunday. The event is an all mountain exploration on the Salomon X-Wing ski, and the winner will embark upon a trip to the SAAB Salomon Transalp X-Wing Rally in Europe, which will feature a skiing and driving experience at seven resorts in seven days.

Killington, VT - Ski Challenge 2007, scheduled for this Saturday at Pico Mountain is a benefit race to raise awareness and funds to support Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports, a non-profit organization that provides year-round sports and recreational programs for individuals with disabilities throughout Vermont. The goal this year is to raise over $15,000. During the day, individuals or teams of three compete in a fun recreational ski race, followed by a cocktail hour beginning at 5 p.m., award ceremony, dinner, dancing and silent auction at the Killington Grand Resort Hotel. This year’s live entertainment is provided by Bobby Dick and the Sundowners.

Snowmass, CO - Aspen/Snowmass hosts the Stihl Colorado Freeride Championships presented by Spike Shooter this Friday and Saturday, March 2-3 at Snowmass, with live coverage of SaturdayÂ’s championships airing on local station, Plum TV. This is the 6th annual Colorado Freeride Series, which is an International Free Skiing Association (IFSA)-sanctioned event, drawing some of the best freeride skiers and snowboarders in the nation to Snowmass.

Sun Peaks (BC), Canada - Tourism Sun Peaks has named Wendy Patriquin as Director, Market Development. Patriquin will be responsible for all resort sales and market development initiatives. She will be especially active in the international marketplace and will become involved with industry initiatives such as the Canadian Destination Ski Consortium and travel trade sales missions. In her new role, Patriquin will be attending Mountain Travel Symposium and Rendezvous Canada in the coming months.

Mammoth Mountain, CA - A massive winter storm has pounded Mammoth Mountain, dumping four feet of fresh snow at Main Lodge in two days. One hundred inches of snow have fallen on Mammoth Mountain in the month of February, bringing the season total to 178 inches.

Sun Peaks (BC), Canada - Final preparations have concluded for the 2007 RE/MAX FIS World Cup Speed Skiing stop at B.C.’s Sun Peaks Resort. From today through Sunday, 50 of the planetÂ’s fastest skiers will battle for $5,000 CDN in prize money in the “fastest non-motorized sport on earth.”
