McHenry, MD - Maryland’s only ski resort, Wisp Resort in the state’s western mountains in Garrett County, will open several beginner and intermediate trails on Saturday including Wisp Trail, Belly Flop and Roadrunner. Chairlift 2 or 3 will operate from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. with mid-station and summit unloading.

Breckenridge, CO - Disabled Sports USA (DS/USA) will host the 20th annual The Hartford Ski Spectacular, the nations largest winter sports festival for individuals with physical disabilities. The event, which will attract more than 800 participants this year ranging in ability from beginning skiers to members of the U.S. Disabled Ski Team (USDST), provides ski and race programs, youth mentorship, competitions and training to volunteer instructors. Held at the Beaver Run Resort and on the slopes of Breckenridge Ski Resort Dec. 2-9, the event is sponsored by The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc., the founding sponsor of the U.S. Paralympics.

Avon, CO - The U.S. Ski Team’s Ted Ligety snared his first World Cup podium at Beaver Creek early in the 2006 Olympic season and, two months later, he was the Olympic combined champion. This winter, he’s coming off a strong preseason of training and growing maturity and opened the 2008 Audi FIS Alpine World Cup finishing second. He’s looking forward to the Charles Schwab Birds of Prey races this week in Beaver Creek.

Avon, CO - A healthy Marco Sullivan (Squaw Valley, CA) returns this week to the Birds of Prey speed course where he tore knee ligaments four years ago. It took him more than two years to get back to racing. Fresh from his first World Cup podium, he said, “I’ll be going for the win.”

Avon, CO - The Audi FIS Alpine World Cup returns to Colorado’s Beaver Creek ski resort this week for the Charles Schwab Birds of Prey men’s Alpine ski races. It will mark the 25th season in which World Cup races have taken place in the Vail Valley.
