Mount Washington Opening Ski Season Thursday

Comox Valley (BC), Canada - Mount Washington Alpine Resort on B.C.’s Vancouver Island has announced that its ski season will get underway this Thursday when the resort plans to open over 70 percent of its alpine terrain for skiing and snowboarding.

Snow Delays World Cup Super G

Avon, CO - A winter storm that hit the central Rockies early Saturday morning forced the postponement of Beaver CreekÂ’s Birds of Prey MenÂ’s World Cup Super-G competition. The race, originally slated for an 11 a.m. start on Saturday, will get underway at 10 a.m. this morning. The decision extends the original Birds of Prey race schedule by one day.

U.S. Ski Team’s Nyman on Podium in Birds of Prey Downhill

Avon, CO - Steven Nyman (Provo, UT), whose first World Cup podium came at Beaver Creek a year ago, “nailed the line” Friday to finish second in downhill during a snowstorm at the Charles Schwab Birds of Prey World Cup ski races at Beaver Creek. “I feel so good about the way I performed,” he said after finishing five-hundredths of a second away from victory.

Ski Federation Gives Green Light for Aspen Races

Aspen, CO - The International Ski Federation and U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association confirmed Friday that the Audi Aspen Winternational FIS Alpine Ski World Cup course is ready for next week’s races. Aspen/Snowmass will once again host the best women ski racers in the world during the Audi Aspen Winternational, December 7 – 9.

Three U.S. Ski Racers in Top 10 in Super Combined

Avon, CO - Three U.S. Ski Team men charged into the first 10 finishers Thursday in the season’s first Audi FIS Alpine World Cup super combined race. After concentrating on combined during the preseason, U.S. Head Coach Phil McNichol said, “Today was payday.”

Ligety Takes World Cup Skiing GS Points Lead

Avon, CO - The U.S. Ski Team’s Ted Ligety (Park City, UT) took over the World Cup giant slalom points lead Sunday as he narrowly missed another podium, finishing tied for fourth in the Charles Schwab Birds of Prey GS at Colorado’s Beaver Creek ski resort.

American, Canadian Both on Podium in World Cup Ski Race in Lake Louise

Lake Louise (AB), Canada - Lindsey Vonn (Vail, CO), building her lead from top to bottom, won a World Cup downhill ski race Saturday at Lake Louise for the fourth straight season. She won by nearly eight-tenths of a second in the zero-degree cold and said, “I trusted myself, knowing the line and not thinking twice about it.”
