New Westin Hotel to Debut in New Zealand Ski Town in 2009

Queenstown, New Zealand - Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc., and Peninsula Road Limited, a fully owned subsidiary of Melview Developments Limited, yesterday announced The Westin Queenstown, to located in the heart of the popular New Zealand ski and snowboard resort town. Scheduled to open in 2009, The Westin Queenstown will be the fifth Westin in the Asia Pacific region, joining Westin hotels in Auckland, Melbourne, Sydney and Denarau Island, Fiji. Starwood, the Westin brand’s parent company, will manage the hotel.

Australian and New Zealand Ski Resorts to Embark Upon Trade Mission to Italy

Bolzano, Italy - The Italian Trade Commission (ICE) and the Provincia di Bolzano, along with the Consortium Indexport, is organizing a trade mission to Bolzano to team Italian manufacturers of ski resort equipment (snowmaking machines, groomers and ski lifts), with Australian and New Zealand delegates from major ski areas.

Record Ski Season for New Zealand

Wellington, New Zealand - New Zealand ski resorts recorded a record 1.4 million visits in 2006, the Ski Areas Association of New Zealand has announced.

Wells Named New Zealand Snow Sports Athlete of the Year

Christchurch, New Zealand - The Annual New Zealand Snow Sports Awards were held at a gala dinner event in Christchurch on Saturday night. Sixteen-year-old skier Jossi Wells was named Snow Sports Athlete of the Year.

X-Games Gold Medalist Charles Garnier Wins Ski Slopestyle at Cardrona Games

Wanaka, New Zealand - 2005 Winter X Games ski slopestyle gold medalist Charles Gagnier today claimed the winning title at the Coca-Cola Cardrona Games’ slopestyle event rescheduled from Saturday due to bad weather, while New Zealand’s top freestyle skier Jossi Wells followed in second place.

Cardrona Games Slopestyle Postponed

Wanaka, New Zealand -Bad weather has forced the postponement of the Coca-Cola Cardrona Games Slopestyle event, originally scheduled to take place today at New Zealand’s Cardrona ski and snowboard resort. The event will now kick off tomorrow.
