Wanaka Athletes Find Success in Cardrona Games Halfpipe

Wanaka, New Zealand - Two of Wanaka’s best snow sports athletes, skier Jossi Wells and snowboarder Mitchell Brown, added another trophy to their cabinets today at the Coca-Cola Cardrona Games, after winning the double halfpipe competition in their disciplines at New Zealand’s Cardrona ski and snowboard resort.

Coca-Cola Cardrona Games Get Underway at New Zealand Ski Resort

Queenstown, New Zealand - The inaugural Coca-Cola Cardrona Games got underway today at the New Zealand ski and snowboard resort with U.S. Winter Olympian and X-Games gold medalist Nate Holland winning the men’s snowboarding Gravity X event as Wanaka’s own Winter Olympian Juliane Bray won the women’s event. In the ski category of the Gravity X, Canadian Winter Olympian Trennon Paynter took the men’s title while Australia’s Janina Kuzma won the event for the women.

U.S. Ski Team Women Train in New Zealand

Queenstown, New Zealand - Good snow, great ski area support and over-the-moon enthusiasm from athletes, who hadn’t skied since spring, helped make the U.S. alpine women’s ski team training camp at Coronet Peak “outstanding,” according to U.S. Head Coach Patrick Riml.

NZ National Snowboard Championships Coming to The Remarkables

Queenstown, New Zealand - The rugged alpine peaks of The Remarkables ski area will be the backdrop this week for the 2006 New Zealand National Snowboard Championships. On Thursday, 150 riders from New Zealand and around the globe will line up to compete in the three-day event.

U.S. Ski Team Men Give New Zealand Camp a ‘Solid A’

Queenstown, New Zealand - Good snow means coaches and athletes can get a lot accomplished at a preseason training camp. U.S. alpine ski team men have had good snow at New Zealand’s Coronet Peak ski and snowboard resort all month. And when conditions wavered a bit, coaches worked into the night to solidify things for the next morning’s training.
